Records – The Introduction

Before we moved, Josh and I dropped off a ton of stuff at Goodwill. We went inside in search for a painting, but that’s a different story.  Their record selection caught our eye, and the next thing we knew we were leaving with a big stack of records and no turntable.  So we picked up a USB turntable and stopped by several other Goodwills around to search through their record selections.
Records

Over the next few weeks we are going to introduce you to some of our purchases.  Show you some of the amazing cover art and use our fancy pants USB turntable to record some musical treats for you to listen to.  So watch out.  It’s going to be great.

Music to Code By

It probably comes as no surprise that I listen to a lot of music at work. My choices tend to shift dramatically over time: one week I’ll be listening to Ricky Gervais podcasts, the next week it’ll be Beastie Boys and then I’ll follow it up with some Avantasia. Lately though (and I’m talking for the last few months) my taste has changed perhaps even more dramatically. Because this is a slow news day here at Cycloptopus H.Q. I submit to you a list of music that I enjoy listening to while coding (the majority of these links open up iTunes) :

A Descent into the Maelström, Philip Glass
Koyaanisqatsi, Philip Glass
One Cello x 16: Natoma, Zoe Keating
Un Día, Juana Molina
Brian Eno: Music for Airports (Live), Bang On A Can All-Stars
Moon (Soundtrack from the Motion Picture)

I probably listen to A Descent into the Maelström more than is healthy. Do you have a specific song or album you tend to fall back on while you’re feverishly working?

Da Chip

DA_CHIP_-_FrontI have been informed that ‘Da Chip’, a compilation of 8-bit Daft Punk songs, has been released to the internets. Having listened to a few of the tracks I can wholeheartedly recommend it.
